Operated by Laurie Gannon, the original program, Camp Science Safari was created in 1997 as a love for all things science was combined with a family history of sports and camp programs. Laurie, who is one of ten children, grew up in San Diego, where her parents ran sports camps from their home throughout her youth. With eight siblings attaining both high school and college All-American status, three becoming members of various USA Olympic teams, and one a current Olympic head coach, the foundation for providing programs a notch above the rest was set from early on. After teaching elementary school for several years, she taught science part-time in order to stay home with her then newborn son.
That love of science would soon rub off onto a young toddler who was fascinated with all things dinosaur…hence, a new camp program was born...a combination of dinosaur lessons and sports that has evolved over the years into a blend of archaeology, paleontology, science, engineering, sports, arts and crafts, and more! With the addition of Camp Culinary Creations in 2003, a new avenue of fun and challenging programs added a new element unavailable anywhere else...sports and crafts combined with the culinary arts.
